  • Control Investments in Established Businesses

    • Established businesses within Canada that are seeking to transition ownership and are positioned to expand with additional capital and expertise.

    • Predictable, high cash flow generating businesses with solid operating fundamentals and well-managed cost structures.

  • Minority Investments in Technology Businesses

    • Fast-growing companies, particularly in fintech, across North America that have demonstrated product market fit and a path to positive EBITDA or exit opportunity.

    • Late-stage technology companies typically seeking to raise Series C or later rounds​ of equity financing.

 

TEAM

Matthew J. Flynn

CEO and Managing Partner

Matt Flynn is an investment professional with close to 20 years of experience in the capital markets. He began his career at a boutique investment bank in Toronto before spending nearly a decade at Morgan Stanley. Most recently, he was a Managing Director at Gluskin Sheff in Toronto prior to its acquisition by Onex. Mr. Flynn holds a BA (History) from Cornell University and a JD and MBA from York University. He is a publicly appointed member of the Toronto Investment Board which oversees over $6 billion dollars for the City of Toronto. He is also a member of the Board of LOFT Community Services where he serves as Chair of the Investment and Audit Committees, and Opera on the Avalon, an arts organization based in St. John's Newfoundland. He is currently the President of the Upper Canada College Association and a member of its Board of Governors. 

Vincent O'Meara

Partner

Vincent O’Meara is an accomplished entrepreneur, executive and director with over 25 years experience in a wide range of sectors, including online payments, technology innovation, publishing/media, advertising and user-experience design.  His specialty is commercializing technology and building high-performing teams to create exceptional organizations.  As co-founder and Chairman of Paramount Commerce he provides strategic leadership, as well as legal and financial oversight to the organization.  Vince has served as a director of several public companies and holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of Toronto.

Rick Huff

Partner

Rick Huff has spent his entire career in the enterprise B2B software markets.  Rick is currently Managing Partner at Huff Capital Inc. [Private Family Office] and Board Director at FlipGive, Wellness Living, Carta Worldwide and SoundPays.   Rick led the sales, marketing and client relations departments [SVP Sales and Marketing] at KUBRA for 24 years.  Rick helped managed the sale of KUBRA in 2014 to the Hearst Corporation in New York.  KUBRA is a leading provider of Billing, Payment, and customer communication software and solutions to enterprise level utility, insurance and government organizations.  Huff Capital Invests in a wide spectrum of investment segments across Capital Markets, Real Estate, Private Equity and Venture Capital

Eric Wong

Partner

Eric Wong is an investment professional with an investment banking and entrepreneurial background. He was previously in the M&A group at BMO Capital Markets and has worked on over $6 billion in public and private mandates. Eric has focused on working with family-owned businesses and mid-market enterprises and is experienced in mergers, acquisitions, strategic alternative assessments, fairness opinions, and privatizations. Prior to BMO Capital Markets, Eric was an investment professional at a hedge fund focused on merger arbitrage and long/short opportunities. Eric holds an MBA from Ivey Business School from Western University.

Suvimal De Costa

Associate

Suvimal De Costa is an investment professional with an extensive background in capital markets and investment banking. Prior to joining LaurelCrest, he was in the Corporate Advisory team at Capital Alliance, a frontier market focused investment bank, where he specialized in M&A advisory. Earlier in his career, he worked in equity research covering the industrials group. Suvimal began his career at Ernst & Young working on their advisory services team. He holds an MBA from the Ivey Business School and is a CFA charter holder.

Ian Bateman

Head of Investor Relations

Ian Bateman has over ten years of experience in capital markets and alternative investments. Ian recently was the COO of an organic food company, Rawcology Inc., which specializes in allergen-free and low sugar granolas and snack foods. Ian has also worked with many alternative asset managers, notably as a member of the Investor Relations team of West Face Capital Inc., one of Canada's leading alternative investment managers specializing in control through distress, private equity and event driven opportunities. He is currently on the Board of Directors of Rawcology Inc.

Harrison Gibson

Analyst

Harrison Gibson is an investment professional with a diverse background in capital markets and investment banking. Prior to joining LaurelCrest, he was an investment banking analyst in the Diversified Industries Group at National Bank Financial, where he advised on mergers and acquisitions, strategic alternatives, and public market offerings. Prior to National Bank Financial, he was an investment banking analyst at BMO Capital Markets in the Metals & Mining Group. Harrison holds a Bachelor of Business Administration from Wilfrid Laurier University.
